Lisbeth Loigu: “Your new life beings with a pre-operative examination!”

What kind of work do you do? What are your hobbies?

At the moment, I’m mainly involved in content creation, and I’m also a dance coach for children. In my spare time, I like to play with my little dog.

Why did you decide to have laser surgery at Silmalaser?

I got glasses in the third grade, and when I was 13, I started wearing contact lenses as well. Life was so uncomfortable with both. Contact lenses were a little better, but they also tended to dry my eyes out and sometimes cause friction.

“My biggest dream was to wake up in the morning see clearly the moment I opened my eyes.”

How long did you consider laser surgery?

I had been thinking about it since I was very young, but when Silmalaser invited me for an eye check-up, I knew it was now or never. Not even two weeks after the first thought and correspondence, I found myself on the operating table.

What stood out to you most about Silmalaser throughout the whole process?

The whole team at Silmalaser is extremely friendly and kind! I felt very comfortable in the clinic, and the doctor had such a reassuring voice and talked me through what they were doing throughout the surgery.

What was your biggest fear before the surgery? What would you recommend for those who have a similar fear?

I didn’t really have any specific fears before the surgery. Only when I walked though the door of the clinic and smelled that pungent hospital smell did what I was there to do dawn on me. There’s no need to worry too much about the surgery, the doctors are very experienced and thoroughly examine the patient’s eyes beforehand. All your questions will also be answered. You just need to put yourself in the doctor’s hands!

How did you feel after the surgery, when your vision had recovered and you could see the world around you without glasses? Did anything exciting or unexpected happen?

Four hours after the surgery, I tried to look at my surroundings for the first time. I saw everything clearly and immediately became extremely emotional. I can’t remember a moment in my life when I saw so well with my own eyes. It’s just incredible how quickly you can see the results after surgery!

What has been the biggest change in your life thanks to the surgery?

Going to bed at night feels very unusual. Automatically, I open the bathroom cupboard to get the contact lens container. Before going to bed the first night after the surgery, I started to search for glasses on my face to put them on the nightstand. I guess it still hasn’t fully dawned on me that I won’t ever need them. I can finally wash my face while seeing clearly at the same time. When travelling, I don’t have to worry whether I brought my glasses, contact lens container, lens solution and spare lenses. There are tons of advantages, and this new life takes a bit of getting used to at first!

What would you recommend for those considering the surgery?

There is no need to think about it, just take action! Your new life beings with a pre-operative examination!
